Sarah Petronio Receives the Tradition in Tap Award

Mar 2012 Report / Tradition in Tap

In November 2011, Tap Giant Sarah Petronio was the recipient of the Tradition In Tap Award in New York City. The weekend long (sold out) event highlighted Ms. Petronio’s work in the field of Tap Dancing, focusing both on her contribution in the past, as well as looking into her present creations. To celebrate, New York Tap dancers and producers Avi Miller, Ofer Ben and Germaine Salsberg, gathered some of the most sought after master faculty, to teach in Sarah’s honor. Along with Ms. Sarah Petronio, honorary master classes were taught by Ofer Ben, Karen Callaway Williams, Denise Caston, Barbara Duffy, Acia Gray, Josh Hilberman, Melba Huber, Avi Miller, Carson Murphy, Prof. Clare O’Donnell, Prof. Robert L. Reed, Germaine Salsberg, Prof Hank Smith, Dormeshia Sumbry Edwards and Nicholas Young.

The event brought together tappers from all over the USA, as well as from Brazil, Canada, France, Holland, and Japan. The showcase which was presented at the Manhattan Movement and Arts Center, gave the opportunity both to the students as well as the master faculty, to get on stage and ‘show off’ each in their own unique tap style.
